World Cup 2010.... not like they used to be, corsets are the answer!

Is it me or have i reached that age..... "where things aren't like they used to be"?

Now for once i'll try and keep on topic..... the World Cup.  The 2010 World Cup.  Now granted I've not seen oodles of it this time around.  But what little i have has been rubbish.

I mean to say the poxy horns (give them as fancy a name as you like, they are still poxy horns... they are a horn *check* and they are poxy *check*).... so.... the horns.  Why is there so much discussion about it?  Because the football is poo.  Why is there so much discussion about the ball wobbling all over the shop (as Robert Green would try and testify to)... because the football has been poo.

And why is there discussion about the parking and time taken to get away from grounds.... yes, because the football has been poo.

So the power of three has it, the South Africa World Cup 2010 has been poo so far.

Maybe the problem is comparing it to the past (and before i get ageist comments... i'm 35 ok?).... I remember the world cup in Spain in 82.  Bryan Robson and his dodgy shoulder.  The legacy images of the Brazilians.  Stunning goals from distance, guile, skill, audacity.  I remember the Mexico 86 World Cup.  Vasily Rats, Bellanov and Bessanov of the USSR scoring from obscene distances at altitude.

The expression of Tardelli of Italy, Lothar Matthaus at Italia 90.  The magic of Cameroon and their run, the tears of Gascoigne, Claudio Caniggia and his stupid elastic band round his hair.  The dribbles of Maradona and the gifted but cynical Argentinians.  And there are so more many memories.

Yet why is since 1990 its been downhill?  USA 94.... well lets pretend that didn't happen.  98...... well that was in France so lets forget that too... cant praise anything French can we?  2002 in Japan and Korea, Germany doing the brits over to get to host the 2006 finals and now Sarf Africa.

Ok so there have been good games in 98, 02 and 06.  But the games seem to have less goals and the players higher paid and bigger cheats (fall over easier).  There seems less romance and all in all.....

It just smacks of Sepp Blatter all over!

Maybe we could spice it up by weighting the players like they do in horse racing.... handicaps!  Tighter laced corsets for the better teams?  Ok so you couldn't wear stockings as they'd get laddered (and that would make me cry!).... so maybe we could ban tackling as Platini wants.

And we'd ensure there wasn't loads of sponsors over the corsets to get back to grass roots.... and we could maybe make the better teams wear increasingly high heels..... a bit more of a handicap.....

Ah well..... suit yourself.... back to watching North Korea then!
