Fluffing round the living room, a smidge of dusting (it does get dusty when warm and you need the windows open) and the news channel carries the big story of the day.
The State Opening of Parliament.
A day for pomp and ceremony and this time around the first official sitting of parliament.... (ok so only a handful of days before summer recess!).
Labour politicians getting used to their new seats and without a figure head.
Now i'm happy to state i have no political allegiance before going on....
I've seen PMQ's a few times on the telly whether a budget or big debate (nearly said mass there... ooer!) and it's a bit of jousting sometimes but this time... the new politics. Well it threw out a number of things that sent a shudder down the spine and a queasiness in the gut.
First.... Cameron
Stood up.... swaggered over his despatch box... smug.... conceited.... the lust for power overriding any tendencies to find his feet and show a humble persona. Derogatory and lacking in class despite his wealthy silver spoon upbringing.
A fierce power hungry expression spat disdain at all in front of him. You could easily stencil blood dripping from the corners of his mouth. One elongated serrated tooth overlapping his bottom lip as the veneer starts to pale and the truth come into public glare.
The fire of lust in his eyes. It looked primitive, it looked carnal, it looked savage, hostile, aggressive and the most definitive word ......ugly.
If this is the new politics.... its an ugly new politics. A thin veil of "the nations interest" used to cover the lustful desire to cling on to power as long as possible. Old conservatism. Little liberalism to be seen.
Changing law to seat for 5 years. Changing the number to call a vote of no confidence to 55%.... cynical.
I never liked Brown, but at least he didnt change the constitution or legal fabric to hold onto power. And yes he was unelected. But so are TweedleClegg and TweedleCam.
TweedleClegg sat listening as the Tory Government in which he now sits goes against every Lib policy going. As seemingly comfortable as if he wore a blue tie.
The only positive thing i can say from this coalition run out is it is unlikely to last long.
A coalition based on power will lead to greed and they won't be able to help themselves in rendering themselves impotent. The sooner that happens, the better for this nations greater good and interest.
Now.... where did i put that feather duster?
